Appropriate for the times we live in, my own rendition to the tune of Matchmaker, Matchmaker ...
Maskmaker, maskmaker
make me a mask
stitch it up straight
in fabric that's fine
maskmaker, maskmaker
Look through your stash
and make me a perfect mask.
Oh, maskmaker, maskmaker,
I'll bring the sanitizer
You bring the mask
Trendy and cool
To cover my face, for I'm longing to be
In compliance and safe, you see.
For Papa, a print featuring his fave team
For Mama, a pretty floral print
But for me, I'll never complain if it's colorful and bold
Maskmaker, maskmaker
Make me a mask
And make me a spare
I don't want to risk a bare face at the store
Make sure I can't catch (or spread) COVID-19
I'm counting on you to keep us all safe.
OK, now I've gotten that off my chest. In the picture is the loaner sewing machine I got from my daugher-in-law, cleaned it up after years of neglect and it works like a charm. I've ordered a new sewing machine that should arrive next week. But yay, I'm able to sew masks with very little difficulty now. And it's a good thing. Requests from postal employees, who are very much on the front line, are pouring in. I believe I've made a total of about 40 with the old crappy and dysfunctional machine. I've done quite a few today, despite a pleasant break to visit with Liz via Zoom this morning while I had my second cup of coffee, and another lengthy phone call, a family group call, that addressed the fact that the USPS plant in Easton where Chad works having a confirmed employee infected with COVID and a few other things, and a trip to Liz and Chad's backyard (5 acres) where I shot a video of myself reading The Giving Tree for a WET fundraiser, one that I decided on my way home should be redone basically in a different order on the very next sunny (or not rainy/windy, at least) day we have. Despite all that, I've finished six masks today, a record, I believe. Tomorrow is Thursday and I think I should be able to spend the better part of the day doing mask catchup work.
And I need to also complete my assignment for the memoir writing course I'm taking.
I may have to get a job when this crisis eases up, if it ever does, and if anyone is willing to hire me. I'm getting really good feedback about my book project, though, so maybe before that happens I can get a huge start on that project, and maybe it could turn into a moneymaker so I don't have to do the horrendous job search thing again. God willing. I have another idea, too, maybe a second part-time job to supplement MAC (assuming I ever get to go back to work there .... and I hope I do).
So, that's my day today. How can I be so busy while shut in at home?
Friday I'm looking forward to a Zoom meeting where my little writer critique group is going to meet and talk for the first time in, I don't know, at least 4 or 5 weeks. I will have something to read this time!
